Here's the ultimate guide to transferring your out-of-state license to a Florida license at the Florida DMV. We've simplified the entire process for you so you can save time.
This guide is for you if you currently have a U.S. driver's license from another state. If you have a foreign or international license, see our How to Get a Driver's License in Florida post, as you'll need to take the road test and the written test.
Step 1: Visit your nearest DHSMV office
Step 2: Receive your new Class E driver’s license via U.S. mail within 2-4 weeks
As a new Florida resident, you must obtain a valid Florida driver license within 30 days of establishing residency to drive on Florida roads.
In addition, you must obtain insurance from a Florida insurance agent that is licensed to sell insurance in Florida in order to title and register your vehicle(s), vessel(s), and mobile home(s) within 10 days of establishing residency.
